Uzbekistan Launches High-Tech Prismatic Lithium-Ion Battery Production Line as Nation Accelerates Green Energy Transition

Tashkent, Uzbekistan — June 23, 2026

In a significant milestone for Uzbekistan's industrial modernization and renewable energy ambitions, a fully automated prismatic lithium-ion battery pack production line has officially commenced operations at a new high-tech manufacturing facility. The project marks one of the first dedicated prismatic battery assembly operations in Central Asia, positioning Uzbekistan as an emerging hub for energy storage technology in the region.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, representatives from Uzbekistan's electrical engineering sector, and industry partners. The event underscored the nation's commitment to building a domestic battery value chain—from critical mineral processing to finished energy storage products.

A Strategic Fit for Uzbekistan's Energy Future

Uzbekistan has set an ambitious strategic objective of increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the total energy balance to 40 percent by 2030. With energy storage systems playing a critical role in grid stabilization, the government has planned to commission 6 additional energy storage systems with a total capacity of 884 MW in 2026, aiming to reach 4.5 GW of storage capacity by 2030.

The new battery production line directly supports this vision. The facility will produce prismatic lithium-ion battery packs—flat, rectangular cells widely used in electric vehicles, stationary energy storage systems, and modern electronic devices. These batteries are essential components for both the growing electric vehicle market and the renewable energy storage infrastructure that Uzbekistan is rapidly deploying across the country.

Advanced Automation Equipment Powers the Production Line

The production line is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced manufacturing and automation technologies designed for high-precision prismatic battery assembly.

  • 2 Six-Axis Robotic Loaders — These high-precision robotic arms handle the automated loading and positioning of battery cells and components throughout the assembly process, ensuring consistent throughput and reducing manual handling errors.

  • 1 Adhesive Application Workstation — This station applies precise amounts of adhesive for cell stacking and module assembly, critical for ensuring structural integrity and thermal management within the battery pack.

  • 1 Stacking, Pressing, and Bundling Machine — This equipment performs the core assembly function of stacking prismatic cells into modules, applying controlled pressure to ensure optimal contact, and bundling completed modules for further processing.

  • 1 Barcode Scanning and Binding Device — This station integrates traceability into the production process, scanning individual cell and module barcodes to create a digital record for quality control and lifecycle tracking, while also performing binding operations.

  • 1 Polarity Detection and Address Allocation Device — This critical safety and quality control station verifies correct cell polarity before assembly and assigns electronic addresses to each battery module for monitoring and battery management system (BMS) integration.

  • 1 Laser Cleaning Equipment — This system uses precision laser technology to clean contact surfaces on cells and terminals, removing oxides and contaminants to ensure low-resistance, high-reliability electrical connections.

  • 1 Laser Welding Equipment — The final assembly station employs high-precision laser welding to create durable, low-resistance electrical connections between cells and busbars—a critical process that determines the performance, safety, and longevity of the finished battery pack.

Driving Localization and Job Creation

The project aligns with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's recent directive that all investment agreements must materialize into real industrial projects, generate new jobs, and produce high value-added goods. The new facility is expected to create hundreds of skilled technical jobs in manufacturing, quality control, and engineering.

Uzbekistan has been actively pursuing localization of battery and electric vehicle component production. The country possesses significant reserves of critical metals including lithium, nickel, cobalt, tungsten, molybdenum, and titanium. The Uzbekistan Technological Metals Complex is already establishing a complete production chain from mineral extraction to finished products, and the new battery assembly line represents a crucial downstream step in this industrial strategy.

The government has also introduced comprehensive measures to promote electric vehicle adoption, including preferential loans for EV purchases at reduced interest rates, expansion of the charging station network to 4,000 stations, and subsidies for charging infrastructure. These policies are expected to drive significant domestic demand for locally produced battery packs.

A Milestone for Central Asian Energy Storage

Industry observers note that the prismatic battery production line represents a technological leap for Uzbekistan's manufacturing sector. The automated assembly process—from robotic loading and adhesive application to precision stacking, laser cleaning, and laser welding—demonstrates the country's capacity to host sophisticated, high-tech industrial operations.

As Uzbekistan continues to integrate renewable energy sources into its power grid and expand its electric vehicle ecosystem, domestic battery production capacity will be essential for energy security, industrial competitiveness, and sustainable development. The new production line is poised to play a pivotal role in this transformation.
